As long as we can provide the medical treatment available for those that require it (which the facts at this point say is a fairly small percentage of those that are infected) and we focus on protecting the vulnerable, what good is any of the rest of the destruction of the economy doing?

The purpose of all these restrictions has never been to stop the virus because that is not a realistic outcome. It has never been to prevent all deaths from the virus as that is not a realistic outcome (the flu kills 20k plus people in the US every year despite billions being spent on treatments and shots). The purpose has been to reduce the infection rate so as to not overwhelm the medical capacity, the goal of which is to reduce deaths that could have been avoided with treatment.

In most of the US, that has been either achieved or was never a significant risk. In NYC, Chicago, etc where population densities are higher, the release should be slower, but for other places it should be faster. Some common sense things are fine, reduce restaurant capacity some, have stores open early for just those that are more vulnerable, etc. But most of the restrictions in place now are just not necessary.
